“…It was my dream to study here!”

“Everyone wants to live a happy life. I believe one of the most important steps to happiness is the right choice of profession. It's great to wake up in the morning and know that a new day at work will bring positive emotions and new and interesting experiences. If you want to love your job and you want to improve your skills and reach new horizons there are various professions in the world where you can do this. Everybody chooses something that they really enjoy and that makes them happy and satisfied!

As for me, I spent some time to understand that tourism was something I definitely wanted to do. Right after high school I was enrolled in the university, on the faculty of Economics. Studying economy wasn’t really my dream, but rather my parents’ dream. They believed economics was a promising sphere where I could build a career and earn money. Maybe it is, but if you don’t have the heart for it no matter how hard you try you’ll never be successful. I studied for one year on the faculty of Economics without any interest and with a feeling that something was missing. Then my parents and I discussed it and decided I would study psychology. Studying psychology was more fun: it was interesting for me to learn about communication between people and people’s behavior. However you can spend your whole life studying psychology and still may never even get close to understanding people. To be a good psychologist you need to spend a lot of time reading books and studying. I, unfortunately, or fortunately as it may be didn’t have this quality. So I started thinking about it and realized that I can study psychology on my own since there are plenty of books about this nowadays. I simply was not ready to give my life over to it. There is so much in the world that I haven’t seen, discovered and learnt yet and I want to see it all! So having completed the first year at the faculty of psychology I had no doubts that I want to dedicate my life to tourism.

Well, when my poor parents found out that their I had decided to leave the second university they absolutely didn’t know what to do and where to go. But after I explained to them my point of view they supported my decision for what I am really grateful.

In the city I was living in there was no university providing tourism courses. But I was lucky! I learnt about the College of Tourism in Antalya. That summer when my parents and I were on holiday in Turkey I got to know a guy and we became really good friends. At the end of our vacation we threw a coin into the sea to bring us back to Antalya again one day. Who would know how we’ll meet again?

One day Roma called me and said that he was going to work and study in Antalya. After this call I couldn’t sleep. Oh my God, I was thinking, it is exactly what I need! Next morning I went to a travel agency and got all the information I needed. It turned out that there was a College of Tourism in Antalya, where I could not only study but also get experience in the best hotels and travel agencies in Antalya! I could neither sleep, nor eat, I was dreaming about studying here! I was really surprised when my parents agreed and supported me in my decision. Later on they were even joking about me having two unfinished higher educations and that I am the sophisticated one in the family.

And now I am here, studying in the Antalya College of Tourism and I am very happy! Every time I realize I am doing the work I am interested in I get this feeling of complete happiness and satisfaction. I am ready to throw myself into it and be a part of it.

Of course, I still have a lot to learn, but I enjoy this so much and I am very grateful to the Antalya College of Tourism! Having entered this college I have made the first step to my dream – working in tourism. Now I am studying what I really like and getting the necessary experience in tourism for my future career.

That is my amazing story! The story of all that happened to me while I was looking for the only profession I am interested in. I wouldn’t be a successful economist, or a bright psychologist but working in tourism I can make all my dreams come true – to visit different countries, learn and see various cultures, taste different cuisine, learn many fascinating things, and find out about plenty of unknown things. I am glad that I understood what profession I needed to do for my happiness! I am also so grateful to my parents for their understanding and support! I am very happy that I am only twenty years old and my story has just begun and no matter how hard my way to success may be I am sure it will have a happy ending!”

“…before coming to Turkey I had a preconceived attitude towards this country…”

“I’ve chose to work in tourism because I think it is a very interesting activity. Working in tourism gives you a good opportunity to meet people of different nationalities and religions. I believe when you communicate with other people you can understand their mentality better and become more open-minded. Sometimes people have an incorrect mental image of a country and its people just because they know nothing about it. For instance, before coming to Turkey, I had many preconceptions but after I came here and saw Turkish life and culture I changed my opinion. I am happy I am a student here and I believe that Turkey, being a world tourism centre, is one of the best places to study tourism.

Turkey is a very beautiful country with beaches on four seas. It has many historical monuments and tourist attractions. Turkey has many things to attract tourists that's why tourism here is well-developed. It is also a great place for shopping, especially quality wise. I also like the people here, they are very friendly. I have stayed in hotels in Turkey several times and find the level of service provided in the hotels to be very high. The standard of service provided can satisfy even the more demanding guests. So after observing and analyzing everything, I decided to get an education in tourism. Nowadays tourism is very popular and every year the number of tourists is growing so there is a need for qualified specialists. Now I am a second year student in the College of Tourism in Antalya. Studying here is great and I can’t wait to start working. The more I study the more I understand I’ve made the right choice.

“…I consider my choice absolutely right!...”

“I think a people should love their jobs. That’s why it is important to choose a profession according to your taste and character. Towards the end of high school, graduates always start thinking about which university to apply for. This is a very important choice in life. I chose tourism because I like to travel, communicate with other people, and study foreign languages. Apart from this I want to learn more about different cultures and see many countries.

Tourism is the fourth industry of the world’s economy. Millions of people work in this sector. I also want to become one of them. I would like to contribute the development of tourism in Kazakhstan. That is why I entered the faculty of tourism in the capital of Kazakhstan. I studied there for one year until I found out about the College of Tourism in Antalya. I thought it was a great opportunity to study tourism in Russian and English languages in one of the big centres of tourism – Turkey. I have an opportunity to get a good education and at the same time to gain experience in the leading travel agencies and hotels and of Turkey and other tourist environments that will help me to get a prestigious job.

After graduating from the college we will receive not only the diploma of Turkish Ministry of Education, but we will also get the European certificate which will give us an opportunity to find job everywhere in Europe. There are many institutions in the world which specialise in tourism education but many people, including me chose this particular college. Antalya has a very mild Mediterranean climate, where the sun is shining 300 days a year. When the weather is nice you are always in a good mood and when you are in a good mood you have motivation to study and work hard. When we don’t have lessons we visit historical and architectural monuments, museums, theatres and do other sightseeing.

Turkish people are very hospitable and they are always very kind with tourists. Many students from all over the world are studying here. I don’t regret that I’ve chosen tourism as this is a very interesting and promising activity. That is why I consider my choice absolutely right!”

Aida Uskembaeva, 2nd year student, 17 year old, Aktobe, Kazakhstan.
“…my study is my future, my life and my goal…”

“To see the world has been my dream since my childhood! As a child my family's favorite TV program was called “Around the World”, and later “Traveler's notes”. It is so interesting to learn about traditions, everyday life and customs of people from all over the world. I enjoy meeting people of different cultures.

I could have continued learning about the world sitting in front of the TV but my family advised me to find a better way. I entered the faculty of tourism in the University of Aktobe, in the capital of my country. However the climate was not suitable for my health and I decided to continue my education in Antalya. I hope that after graduating I will have all the necessary professional skills to achieve everything I want in life.

The work in travel agencies and hotels is not only prestigious but also interesting. It is great to be able to help people with the choice of tourist destinations. People have different interests and different opportunities. Even though the jobs of teacher, doctor or engineer are very well respected, they are still binding. The job I’ve chosen doesn’t restrain me or hold me back in anything. There are so many opportunities in this beautiful world! You can go camping and spend a nice romantic night by the fire or stay in a luxurious hotel – and I can help people to make the right choice. I Live in a country that has just started on its way to developing a tourism sector, I am glad that I can be a part of this and contribute to the development of the republic of Kazakhstan. I am studying in one of the best international educational institutions for tourism. And my study is my future, my life and my goal.”
